Form Follows Function, Function Follows Form...

          According to Wikipedia, form follows function is a principle associated with modern architecture and industrial design in the 20th century. It states that shape of a building or an object should be based on its function and purpose. Whereas, function follows form is opposite of form follows function. The form is created first and then only the layout is designed.

         Function follows form usually end up with great outer design and satisfying appearance from outside view but the we don't know what happens inside. For an example, the picture below shows the MIT Strata Center building by architect Frank Gehry. The outer appearance of the building is magnification and unique however the building blocks the emergency exit of the building. Therefore, this building is much for the design and when it comes for the practicality it is considered as a bad design.

             On the other hand, form follows function is designed according to its purpose, thus fulfilling the function of the building or an object. For an example, the picture below shows an image of a designer's sofa. This sofa is designed for people to sit on it. Therefore, it follows the basic structure of a sofa but however it is designed in a creative way without neglecting the function of it.

A glass tube act as a bird cage. It has a hole for the bird to breathe. This is an example of form follows function because it does not neglect the function as a bird cage.

                   Therefore, in design there is no one way of doing thing. Every designers has their own way of doing this. As long as it function able and practical any way is correct in achieving a good design. Form follows function or function follows form are both acceptable in design.

Less is more, More is Less ??

           Less is more is the notion of simplicity and clarity lead to good design. This is a 19th century proverbial phrase. It is founded in the print in Andrea del Sarto,1855, a poem by Robert Browning. Less is more is often associated with architure and web design.

           The purpose of minimalist design is to make the content to stand out and be focal point. Minimalism brings the important content to the focus and minimize the distraction to the audience. For an example, if a page is cramped with lots of element it distracts and confuses the user. Therefore, a minimalist design gives a focal point to the content. Therefore, it is best to keep the design simple so that is is understand able and catchy.

           In contrary, more is less is giving complexity to the design. However, the more complex is the design the more confuse it makes the audience. Besides, if there's too much of information in a page, it makes the main content in the page less noticeable and less important. Therefore, keeping the content to a minimum allows the designer to achieve perfect balance and thus producing a good design.

           In conclusion, the phrase "less is more, more is less' in very useful in design. It is important to keep the design simple in order to produce a good design.

   As I was going through my e-mail I saw a collection of creative images and unique things in my inbox which I saved it long time ago. As I was seeing I came across with these images. These are chalk drawings which is drawn on pathways and streets. However, the specialty of this drawings are it looks as if it is real. These are realistic drawings. Since it is drawn on the streets people who walk pass them will think it is so real. In fact the drawing also looks so real because it is drawn in 3D dimension. It is so creative how people can draw a image that looks so real like this. I stared at the pictures so long and still I cant identify how it is drawn.

Food Arts..

      Chefs from around the world find many creative ways of preparing and serving the food. I found this pictures of creative foods in the net. It is amazing to see how creatively a food can be prepared in this way. Who would actually thought we can serve rice and its gravy in a ways that a bunny is bathing in it.These are creative ideas of the chef and the restaurants. Arts like this can be found mostly in the foreign country. They have proved that foods are not for eating only but they can be turned into a art.

       I found this images from my friend's pc. She collects this kind of beautiful images.These are beautiful places from all around the world. If this kind of beautiful places can be found in earth i wonder how the heaven will look like.It is amazing how nature can be this beautiful. Is is because god has accidently created those place or is it because of the country is gifted?? God really amaze us in many ways. Nature is beautiful as always.

Digi advertisement..the yellow man..

      One advertisement that still in people's mind is the digi advertisement of the yellow man. It is so creative that is still famous among the Malaysians. The image of the yellow man and also the advertisement was so creative and catchy that makes everyone talk about. Now when we talk about digi the first thing that comes in people's mind is the yellow man, that significant the yellow man has been to the public. As a advertising student, I admire the way how the advertiser has catch everyone attention in a short period of time. The main factor that makes the advertisement successful is its funny and the slogan and song that says "I will follow u". It is one of the advertisement that I like since last time.

Programme I once used to watch often - Just for Laughs

       Last time during my school days I used to watch this program called Just for Laughs. It is a program where they will prank random people on the streets. It is so funny and I like to watch it very much. They prank people in many creative ways and its nice to see how people react to it. I used to wait every week to watch this programme. After for a while they had stopped this programme and came out with Just for Laugh Gags but it wasnt so funny and later on Malaysian came up this programme but it wasnt as nice as the foreigners one.

Cool Sports Cars..

      I love sports cars ever since I was young. Something about them excites me a lot. Especially foreign sports cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini. They are so beautiful and geniusly architectured with cool and sporty looks which most of them gets attracted. Not only guys but also girls love them because of their beautiful shape and design. Not only the outer appearance but also their interior design and parts are cleverly designed and created. They don't just look nice but their function and the parts are stronger than other normal cars. Not only that, I also like them because they can go twice as fast than a normal car.

Artist Impression???

     Today during submission, Mr. Zul explained to me what is artist impression. He said artist impression is a 3D view of how a final project will look like. For an example, in brochure of houses, they will have artist impression of the house, the environment and also includes human figures to show how the place will look like after it is filled with people. After I came back to room, I googled what artist impression is to get more understanding in it. I did not find the meaning of it but I found few examples of artist impression. It made me to understand it more. All this while I thought artist impression is the artist's comment about their work. Now I get it, it is not artist impression but it is called artist statement. I should have googled it earlier while I'm doing the assignment, I would have done my assignment correctly. Now its too late and I am regretting for not finding out what artist impression is on the first place before doing my assignment. After this I should google things first before doing my assignment. I am very sorry sir for not doing my assignment correctly and thank you for accepting it even when it is not correct.

Water Marble Nail Art..

     All this while I only know that nail art is done by drawing on the nail. But recently only I know that nail art can be done differently by dipping your nail in a cup of water that is filled with nail polish. I know this through my chinese friend who told me about this few weeks back. It looks so pretty on her nails and yet it is creative. It is called water marble nail art. A new way of doing nail art. I googled it and found a tutorial on how to do this water marble nail art. It looks so simple and easy to do. I am going to try it one day.

My favourite singer..

       My favourite singer is Jay Sean. I love his voice and his songs so much. Besides, he is also very smart and good looking. He has his own way of singing and projecting himself to the public. He not only can sing but he can also dance very well. His songs are well known all around the world and liked by everyone. My favourite number is Down, Ride It and 2012. These songs has superb lyrics and upbeat music. His lyrics are also easy to catch up and understandable.Apart from that, he will not only give importance to his lyrics and music but he also give importance to his music video as well. All his song videos are awesome and creative. Of all the song videos I like his Down song video. It is so stylish and trendy.

Creative Sketches..how cool is it??

    

    





             My friend received this pictures from a mail. It is so clever how the artists connects their sketches with real human figure. The sketches are so genius till I cannot figure out how they draw like that. It looks so real and amazing how someone can even draw so realistic like this. I hope my sketches can be this good when I become a designer in future.

Genius with knife.

       These are few of my collections. I used to collect this kind of creative pictures last time. Some of it are shown above. These pictures are so creative in the way how the artist cut the vegetables and fruits in a very beautiful and creative way. Each pictures has a story and it is very difficult for a normal person to cut vegetables or fruits in a form of an image. But this artist has achieved it. Of all this pictures i love picture number two where the egg is cut into a shape of an trolley. It is soo creative and needs to be very professional to create an artwork like that. The egg shell is very fragile and the artist must be a professional to form an artwork like.

Something on internet that strike me...

        While I was surfing the net, I came across with some pictures of a orange festival in Netherland. It took place last year in Netherland. It was a festival where all the things in the street is decorated with millions of oranges. It is so creative and unbelievable how a street is decorated with just oranges. It sure took months to build it. I wish I was in Netherland to experience and see this beautiful and unique festival  in life.

Creative Paper Cutting..

        When I was young I used to play by folding paper in a small piece then cutting it in different shapes and when I open it the paper will have beautiful designs and I used to feel happy seeing it. I thought I was very creative at that time. However, recently a friend of mine send me a mail of few images of creative paper cutting. I was amazed seeing it. What i thought creative once upon a time felt like was not creative at all. This paper cuttings are called creative. I wonder how they cut the paper in so detail.  It is impossible to cut with just scissors or a pen knife. On top of that it is created with only one paper. Maybe this guys learned about how to create creative paper cuttings or what. Whatever it is the paper cutting are brilliant and speechless.

About an animation movie that I like recently..

       During the weekend I watched Rapunzel, a disney animation movie with my friends. I usually love all the disney movies. They are just perfect. The animations, graphics and the storyline are just perfect. When I watched Rapunzel I liked it even more. The animation and the characters are soo beautiful. I was looking at Rapunzel all the while to figure how they would have drawn her and come up with the idea to draw a character like her. She was so pretty and attracted me straight away. Besides, the settings and background of the animation movie are also so beautiful and attractive. Apart from that, even though they have changed the storyline of the actually animation cartoon, I actually liked this storyline more or can be said I loved it a lot. Rapunzel was superb with perfect character design, background setting, romantic, funny and interesting storyline. It is worth watching. Rapunzel has now become one of my favourite animation movie of all time.

Beautiful paintings that I receive from e-mail.

         Recently I received an e-mail from my friend. It was few images of paintings from an unknown artist. The painting were awesome. I wish I know who is the artist is. His artworks are so brilliant. He used only water colour if I'm not sure. Maybe he used acrylic paint or something like that but I'm sure he never sketch the painting at all!! It's all colour play. A beautiful and genius one. He used almost all the colours in the colour pallet.I never knew one can paint beautifully like this just using paint brush.The paintings were all images of buildings and some were about few locations in the streets. It is not even a detailed painting. It is just a rough painting. It's as if he just dipped his brush into a paint and just smudged the paint on a canvas. Whatever it is I just love his painting. I did not delete the e-mail. I saved it because I just love it a lot. Paintings like this should be treasured. They are worthless and mind blowing.

Tempting Coffee Art..Just Love It..

            I usually do not like coffee but coffee with coffee art makes my mouth watery. I just love it soo much. Looking at it itself makes me feel like having it. I have always wondered how coffee arts are made but even after I know how it is made, I still cant help myself getting amazed at it every time I look at it. It needs a lot of patience to make a coffee art. For me I consider it as a very fine art and I adore it a lot. We may erase if we draw wrongly in a paper but if we make a mistake while drawing on a coffee, it cannot be deleted. The barista has to do the coffee all over again. The pretty patterns and designs on the coffee is very artistic and creative. I wonder where can I find coffee like this. I haven't seen a coffee like this is Malaysia yet.
